Jiu Jitsu Instructor
Matt began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tutelage under Shannon Mather’s, a blackbelt taught by the esteemed and well-respected Carlos Machado. He has trained for five years, and took part in his first competition in 2009. His experience on the mat, as well as the time he spent training rigorously under Shannon Mather’s, has earned him 3 gold’s, 1 silver, and 2 bronze’s. In addition to that, he has fought Mixed Martial Arts, showcasing his incredible skill on the ground, while honing his stand up at the Ohana gym. Over the last two years, he has improved prolifically in Muay Thai, making improvements in leaps and bounds that has made him an incredible fighter, not only in Jiu-Jitsu or Muay Thai, but in the Mixed Martial Arts world.
Matt says Jiu-Jitsu changed his life. It's helped him find focus, clarity, and discipline, as well as sparked his drive to succeed. Whether it be pressure at work, during training, or in the ring, Jiu-Jitsu has given him the ability to problem solve and work with a cool and collected head. As Ohana's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor, a purple belt now under the instruction of Alan Shebaro, another incredible black belt under Carlos Machado, he aims to spread his passion and love for the art of Jiu-Jitsu to each of his students.
After all, Jiu-Jitsu isn't just something that happens on the mat or in the ring. Jiu-Jitsu is life, and Matt intends to show that to the world.
